The death of Hugh McKelvey

The death occurred at his residence, Steen’s Row, Beersbridge Road, Belfast, of Mr. Hugh McKelvey, a well-known footballer of 40 years ago.

Mr. McKelvey, who was familiarly known as “Clute,” played at centre-forward and inside left for Glentoran, to whom he went from Parkside Rovers, a famous club in the Ballymacarrett district. He was capped against Wales in 1901, when the Irishmen won by a goal to nil in Belfast.

Mr. McKelvey played for Glentoran for a number of years, among his colleagues in the team being Jack Lewis and Alex Hattie.
