Liverpool’s final home game

May 27, 1940
Liverpool has only one big match to stage before the curtain is rung down on the season. It is the game at Anfield on Wednesday evening between Liverpool and Tranmere Rovers.

Peter Doherty, Irish international inside left, and Frank Swift, English international goalkeeper, will play for Liverpool. Mr. George Kay, Liverpool’s manager, has secured the consent of Manchester City to include them, and also in this all-star Reds’ side will be Tennant (Stoke City), Stuart and Murphy (Middlesbrough), Brown (Huddersfield Town) and Hanson (Chelsea).

Liverpool: Frank Swift, Jack Tennant, Bobby Stuart, David Murphy, Alan Brown, Ray Lambert, Billy Liddell, Len Carney, Berry Nieuwenhuys, Peter Doherty, Alf Hanson.

** Note: Article refers to Murphy, of Middlesbrough. I have chose to go with the fact that the correct is George Murphy, of Bradford City.
