Mini Derby Challenge revived

May 30, 1940
A couple of seasons ago after match talk at Anfield resulted in a challenge match being arranged between the ‘A’ teams of Liverpool and Everton. It was staged at Anfield and Liverpool won.

It was hoped to make this an annual events – it was a grand game from start to finish – but for some reasons it did not take place the next season. Now it is being revived in a somewhat different form.

With Liverpool and Everton playing away on Saturday, the clubs have agreed to play a game between the juniors of both clubs. It will be staged at Goodison Park at 3.15. I can promise the locals some high-class football.

Everton: – S. Hedger (20), R. Ireland (16), G. Dugdale (16), G. Sherratt (17), B. Atkins (17), S. Miller (16), W. Sumner (17), S. Simmons (16), J.W. Powell (15), Jack Lyon (16), G. Bailey (17).

Liverpool: – Tom Brownbill (18), Syd Lund (18), Kenneth Seddon (17), Ted Rafferty (17), Charlie Fazackerley (18), Dennis Cooke (18), Eddie Spicer (17), Ray Lambert (17), Stan Pickstock (18), Stan Palk (18), George Collister (17), Sidney Cathrall (17).
