The first representative English football match of the season will be played at Sheffield next Saturday. Teams styled All British XI, and a Football League XI will meet on the Sheffield Wednesday ground at Hillsborough, and the League are devoting the proceeds to a fund for alleviating distress in bombed areas.
The names of the players invited to take part are:
All British XI. – Jack Breedon (Manchester United), Billy Cook (Everton), Bill Hayes (Huddersfield), Don Dearson (Birmingham), Tommy Jones (Everton), Archie Livingstone (Bury), Berry Nieuwenhuys (Liverpool), Andy Mutch (Preston), Jimmy Dougal (Preston), Peter Doherty (Manchester City), and Hugh O’Donnell (Blackpool).
