Liverpool have two blanks yet to fill before their side against Everton, at Anfield, in the Liverpool Senior Cup final is complete.
One is at left half, and the other at inside right, and in each case Manager George Kay is hoping to introduce a “guest artist” of drawing power. Liverpool already include two newcomers in other positions in Griffiths, of Manchester United, who takes the places of the injured Ray Lambert at left back, and Woodruff, of Burnley, who is at centre half.
Woodruff played against Liverpool at Anfield last Saturday for Blackburn, in the Lancashire Senior Cup semi-final, and gave a brilliant display, though this time he will be up against a stiffer proposition in Tommy Lawton. The vacancy at left half is created through Haycock returning to attack, where he partners Palk on the left wing. At the moment the team reads:
Liverpool. – Alf Hobson, Roy Guttridge, John Griffiths, Harry Kaye, Arthur Woodruff, A.N. Other, Billy Liddell, A.N. Other, Cyril Done, Fred Haycock, and Stan Palk.
Everton have had to make changes in their side as the Western Command team to meet Wales include Billy Cook and Joe Mercer. Everton have been advised that the latter has been chosen, but understand Cook may be available for the Anfield game. Stan Bentham goes right half in Mercer’s place, and George Mutch (Preston) comes into the forwards. Everton, meantime, are making no alteration at right back.
