Jack Balmer may play

September 30, 1942
Jack Balmer, Liverpool’s English international forward, will probably make his first appearance of the season this week-end. Jack has been named among the 13 players from which the team to face Bury at Anfield will be selected.

Balmer was injured when playing for the Western Command against Wales at Wrexham last season and has not played since. Jack has been doing a spot of cricket and has been up training recently. Now Manager Mr. George Kay thinks the time is ripe for Balmer’s return to the fold.

If Balmer can play then Liverpool will have an attack of international standard. Young Hulligan and Palk are included in case there is a vacancy at outside left.

Roy Guttridge returns to left back in place of Westby, of Blackburn Rovers, who goes back to right back. Fred Williams being omitted.

Liverpool (from): Alf Hobson, Jack Westby, Roy Guttridge, Harry Kaye, Eric Keen, Jack Pilling, Billy Liddell, Dick Dorsett, George Mills, Jack Balmer, Cyril Done, Michael Hulligan, Stan Palk.
