Liverpool need only one point from their visit to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow to make sure of their position as runners-up to Blackpool in the League.
One thing the Reds can complete – their sixth double of the season, and that, in itself, will be an achievement. So far Liverpool have taken full points from Wrexham, Bury, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chester, and last Saturday beat the Blackburn Rovers 6-2 in their first meeting – a score which was a true reflex of Liverpool’s superiority.
The Birkenhead people will revel in the fast moving deadly Liverpool forward formation, which is one of the features of northern football at the moment.
Having already taken four points from Wrexham I cannot see the Welshmen upsetting Liverpool’s 100 per cent home record on Saturday. This game should give the Reds a good send-off in quest of cup qualification, but Wrexham are great fighters, as witness their amazing recovery over Crewe last Saturday. Yes, I must tip a double Liverpool success this Christmas.
