Manchester United at Anfield

October 21, 1943
Manchester United are bringing a particular strong team to tackle Liverpool at Anfield, on Saturday, including no fewer than eight of their pre-war players under skipper George Roughton. The only “guests” are Bellis, the former Tranmere Rovers winger, who is on Rochdale’s books, and Macdonald, the Bournemouth winger, who partners Bellis.

McKay, the former Bolton Wanderer, will be at inside right to Bryant, while Jack Smith, once sought by Liverpool, leads the attack with Porter at centre half.

Manchester United: Jack Breedon, John Griffiths, George Roughton, Jack Warner, Billy Porter, Bert Whalley, Bill Bryant, Billy McKay, Jack Smith, Alf Bellis, Jack Macdonald.
