Three Liverpool players for the Western Command


August 14, 1944
The first of the season’s representative football matches will be played at Blackpool on Saturday between the R.A.F. and Western Command.

R.A.F.: Reg Savage (Leeds United), Pope (Heart of Midlothian), Sammy Jones (Blackpool), George Farrow (Blackpool), Robert Davies (Nottingham Forest), Paterson (Celtic), Stanley Matthews (Stoke City), Stan Mortensen (Blackpool), Joe Payne (Chelsea), Finnan (Blackpool), Tommy Pearson (Newcastle United).

Western Command: Frank Swift (Manchester City), Bert Sproston (Manchester City), George Taylor (Bolton Wanderers), Harris (Birmingham), Ronnie Stuart (Blackpool), Jimmy McInnes (Liverpool), Billy Elliott (West Bromwich Albion), Jack Balmer (Liverpool), Tommy Lawton (Everton), Don Welsh (Charlton Athletic), Bill Kinghorn (Liverpool).
