Liverpool Football Club officials and followers are proud of the fact that no fewer than seven of their players have gained commissions in the Services. The latest to reach officer rank is Billy Liddell, the Scottish international outside-left, who has been made Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force in Canada. Billy sends word to Manager George Kay that he expects to be home again in a few weeks and is looking forward to resuming his football career – services duties permitting. This is also a spot of good news for Scotland.
Liverpool’s other footballer-officers are, Captain Dirk Kemp (Army), Captain Len Carney (Army), Lieutenant Tom Bush (Army), Lieutenant Eddie Spicer (Royal Marines), Lieutenant Stan Eastham (Army), and Sub-Lieutenant George Collister (Royal Navy).
