Although only two qualifying matches have been played so far, there are only nine clubs of those battling for those vital 32 places claiming full points. Among them are Liverpool, now leading the qualifiers by virtue of goa-average.
The double over Southport will, I think, be followed by another “double,” this time at the expense of Stockport County. The clubs clash a Edgeley Park tomorrow, and although Laurie Hughes is not fit, new-comer Jack Blood can be relied on to hold down the centre-half position at right if one can accept his last week’s form at its face value. Kenneth Seddon will return to right-back and will fill the bill well, while Taylor’s return to the attack compensates for the loss of Billy Liddell.
Liverpool took four League points from the County, winning 3-2 at Stockport, and I anticipate a “repeat dose.”
Liverpool: Alf Hobson, Kenneth Seddon, Jeff Gulliver, Harry Kaye, Jack Blood, Jack Pilling, Jack Campbell, Berry Nieuwenhuys, Don Welsh, Phil Taylor, Michael Hulligan.
