Liverpool followers have been wondering for some time what has happened to Jack Balmer, the Anfielders’ talented inside forward, who was second leading goal scorer last season, and whose regular inclusion this season would have been helpful in view of the loss of Cyril Done.
He is still with his Army unit on Merseyside, but since straining himself in the marathon cup-tie against Manchester City has had to take things as easily as possible. A strenuous and regular football game on top of his Army job is more than he feels inclined to tackle at the moment.
Liverpool would like to have him back for the knock-out cup-tie games, but it is doubtful whether he will be able to manage it. When he does return he will be welcome, for on his best form he is a match-winning player.
