Local history lesson (March 22, 1945)

March 22, 1945
This was Lord Street, Liverpool, towards the end of the 18th Century:
“A tidal stream, a sandy shore, with some bots, a rustic bridge, a narrow pathway between trees and apple orchards, some green pasturage, and the massive round towers of a noble castle at the summit of the path.
“Its turrets with lofty vanes and pointed gables rose above the towers, their outlines sharply defined against a glowing sky.”
