Liverpool have been “reprieved” in the Lancashire Senior Cup. If they defeat Manchester City in the North Cup second round they must withdraw from the county competition, and so the local “Derby” with Everton would go by the board. Just the same, if Manchester United defeat Stoke City in the North Cup they must withdraw from the Lancashire Cup, leaving Crewe Alexandra to go forward to meet Stockport County.
If, however, Liverpool lose to the City in the North Cup they will play Southport in the second “leg” of their Lancashire Cup-tie on April 21, and the winners will meet Everton on April 28 and May 5. If Liverpool leave the Lancashire Cup Everton will oppose Southport on April 21 and April 28.
