April 30, 1945
Fred Sweeney, Northwich, the Everton outside-right, has returned home after being a prisoner of war in Germany for nearly two years.

Sweeney played several times for Everton’s first team. Everton have not received any word about their other prisoners of war – Jack Lyon and Billy Reed.
