Chelsea to pay £8 for demobilised stars

Saturday, August 4 – 1945
Football League clubs have received instructions from the Football Association that they may give agreements to demobilised players offering their full-time services. Chelsea, South Cup holders, are the first to state publicly that they intend to pay the pre-war maximum wage to demobilised players coming out of the Services who do not wish to play part-time for the League maximum match fees of £4.
