Key note: “Liverpool simply swamped Blackpool in the return game at Anfield. Their four goals victory was in no way flattering, for they could have doubled the scored had they taken full toll of their chances. Liverpool got their teeth into the game from the start and never lost their grip; in fact, the longer the game progressed the more likely they were to add to their goal crop, for Blackpool, apart from some desperate defensive play, were never a menace. Their forward play was feeble to a degree, and the injury to Mortensen cannot be quoted as a reason for their defeat, for they were a beaten side long before Mortensen was carried to the dressing-room with concussion.” (Liverpool Echo: April 29, 1946)
