Key note: “Liverpool concluded their League fixture when they visited Bolton last night, and suffered their first defeat since March 23. It is usual at this period of the year to find teams taking things easy, especially if there is nothing at the end of it. But this game at Burnden Park was as good as anything which has been seen on the ground this season. Each side was on its toes, and the skill and pace of the two rivals was such that the 16,000 people thoroughly enjoyed the fare provided.” (Liverpool Echo: April 30, 1946)
