Len Carney: Schoolmaster and a war-hero


August 29, 1946
Len Carney, fair-haired schoolmaster crashes into big-time football when he plays for Liverpool against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

He played a few League games before he joined the Army, but so sensationally did he play in the trial match that he is preferred to the club captain Willie Fagan.
Carney won the D.S.O.(*) in Italy.
