Liverpool’s Swedish tour

May 5, 1951
Liverpool depart by specially-chartered plane from Speke next Saturday morning for their tour of Sweden. They will take part in the jubilee celebrations of the famous A.I.K. Club, who visited Liverpool last year and gave a fine display at Anfield, playing two games in Stockholm.

The Liverpool touring party will consist of the following 16 players: Charles Ashcroft, Ray Lambert, Eddie Spicer, Steve Parr, Phil Taylor, Laurie Hughes, Bob Paisley, Jack Heydon, Willie Fagan, Jimmy Payne, Bill Jones, Cyril Done, Jack Balmer, Billy Liddell, Ken Brierley and Kevin Baron.

Matches will be played in Stockholm, Norrköping, Malmö and Gothenburg. From information supplied by a Swedish friend in Liverpool the Anfielders visit is being looked forward to with great interest. Billy Liddell’s inclusion in the party means his absence from the Scotland team to meet Denmark on May 12. He was invited to play for his country, but decided to fly with his team mates.
