Bert Trautmann, the Manchester City goalkeeper, yesterday stated that he had informed the club of his desire to return home to Germany at the end of the season. He wishes to help to put German international football back on the map, and believes that his experience in this country will be valuable.
Trautmann, a parachutist in the war, became a prisoner in 1945. He later played for St. Helen’s Town, a Lancashire Combination side, and joined the City in October 1949.
