Mr. Albert Shears, aged 54, of 22 Dawney Road, Ribbleton, Preston, who played for Preston North End in the early 1930’s collapsed and died while at work at Leyland Motors yesterday afternoon. Mr. Shears was contemporaneous with Tom Roberts and like him a centre forward. He played for North End beaten by the the Corinthians at Stamford Bridge in 1932 as leader. Roberts moving to inside right and scoring twice in a 2-3 defeat.
A millwright, he had been employed at Leyland for about 20 years and during that time had taken an active interest in the works social club.
He leaves a widow and two daughters.
