A new and painful experience this week for Doug Rudham, Liverpool’s South African goalkeeper. He is dropped into the reserves for the first time since he joined the club eight months and twenty-seven games ago.
Into the first team against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday steps Dave Underwood, signed from Watford two years ago. He hasn’t played in the first team since September 1954.
“Dave has been doing so well in the reserves that his form simply cannot be ignored,” says Liverpool boss Don Welsh. “It is up to Rudham to fight his way back.”
Manager Don Welsh has picked a tough enough test for Underwood – “Fulham are the top scorers in the Second Division with 44 goals in eighteen games.”
John Molyneux and Ronnie Moran, both fit again after injuries, return to the full back positions in place of Lambert and John Price, while the inside forwards switch, Alan Arnell going back to inside right and John Evans to inside left.
