Gerry Byrne to make his debut

Late-night warning by Liverpool boss Phil Taylor to the Football League: “If any more of my players go down with flu I must ask for our match at Charlton to be postponed.”

Nine of his first-team men are out of action through flu or injury. Gerry Byrne, 19 year old local discovery makes his debut at left back and Barry Wilkinson, a wing half, is forced to play for the first time on the right wing.
