Welsh international centre forward Desmond Palmer, transferred from Swansea Town to Liverpool for £8,000 in March last year, is to play for Johannesburg Ramblers. Also joining the Ramblers are Doug Rudham, the South African goalkeeper who has been with Liverpool since 1955, and Tranmere Rovers wing half Ray Williams.
All three have been released by their clubs and fly to South Africa on Sunday. There is now a distinct possibility other players similarly placed may seek heir fortunes in the Union.
