Celtic, the only club this winter to use a mixture of straw and hay on top of their pitch to keep out the frost, will be visited next Wednesday by Mr. Donald Monteith, who has invented a blanket designed to do the job. It consists of an inner layer of straw with a plastic cover.
Rangers chairman Mr. John Lawrence has already ordered a number of the blankets for experiments on the Rangers training pitch at the Albion.
Celtic manager Jimmy McGrory said that several other methods of heating the frost had been suggested to the club.
Mr. McGrory continued – “We will be interested to see Mr. Monteith’s invention. So far we have found nothing to beat the straw and hay cover.”
