Liverpool F.C. directors, meeting yesterday, appointed as expected Mr. Sidney Cecil Reakes as chairman and Mr. Harold Cartwright vice-chairman following the resignation of Mr. Thomas Valentine Williams (T.V. Williams) from the chairmanship.
Mr. Reakes, who has big business interests in transport in the St. Helens area, joined the Board in June, 1955 and was appointed vice-chairman in August, 1961, succeeding the late Mr. Herbert Robson Roberts.
Mr. Cartwright, who is manager of the Royal Liverpool Friendly Society for the Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn district, has been a life-long follower of the club. His father, the late Walter Henry Cartwright, was a former chairman.
He joined the Liverpool Board in June, 1954 and from 1958 to 1963 was chairman of the ground committee. During his term of office, many improvements were completed at Anfield.
Mr. Williams was elected president of the club – a new office. This honour reflects the directors’ regards of his work during his eight seasons as chairman.
