Liverpool let seven go free

Saturday, May 25 – 1968
Liverpool have given free transfers to seven of their young players and retained 28 professionals, they announced to-day.

Among the retained are wing-half Roy Evans, former Bootle and England schoolboy, and winger Dave Wilson, for whom they paid Preston £20,000 18 months ago

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Crewe Alexandra for Evans, who will give a decision on returning from holiday in three weeks’ time.

Wilson is considering a move to Bury, also at a fee and is expected to decide this week-end.

The seven being allowed to go are:
David Barnes, from North Wales, a forward who has played with the A and B teams; Jim Bowman and Mick Flexen, both forwards from Liverpool; Alan Hughes, local-born centre forward who was on loan to Chester last season; Stuart Mason, full back bought from Wrexham in a double deal with Peter Wall for £30,000 two years ago, who has been on loan to Doncaster Rovers; Peter Price, a forward, from North Wales; and Jim Pyatt, forward, who joined them for the London amateur club Cheshunt.

Price is expected to join either Chester or Wrexham.
