Half time report from the Liverpool Echo, Saturday, August 10 – 1968.
A good move down Liverpool’s right brought a long shot from Hall which was well wide of the target, and in another good Liverpool move, Dunn did well to rush out and dispossess Arrowsmith when he was going through.
A long pass from Bradley set Woodward in motion but before Villa could threaten danger, Sheasby lost possession to Roff. Dunn did well to gather a hard, low shot from Evans and for Villa, Bradley shot well wide from a good position.
Villa pressed strongly down the right wing and after a goalmouth scramble Rudge rushed in to graze the crossbar with a first-time shot. A good shot from Woodward from the edge of the penalty box sailed just the wring of the upright.
Dunn made severe magnificent saves, two in particular from Arrowsmith and Marshall.
