Liverpool look like starting hot favourites in the eight-team International Under-20 youth tournament in Holland at the beginning of May. And no wonder, with a team likely to include an international like £100,000 centre forward Alun Evans.
Alun qualified under the age limit for the tournament by just 30 days and so the youngster who has won England youth and Under-23 caps is likely to be in the Liverpool party for the games in Amsterdam.
Others going will probably include John McLaughlin, John Webb, Steve Marshall, Eddie Flood, John McKenna and Grahame Lloyd – all of them with experience during this season’s Central League triumph by the reserves.
Among Liverpool’s opponents will be Ajax and Scottish club Glasgow Rangers. Rangers have also a lot of useful youngsters, some of them blooded in the Scottish First Division recently.
