Anfield’s Mr. Versatile, the man who in six years has worn almost every shirt at Liverpool, moved on yesterday. Geoff Strong, who joined Liverpool as a striker for £40,000 in 1964 from Arsenal, was transferred to Coventry City for £25,000.
After the clubs had agreed terms, Strong and Coventry manager Noel Cantwell discussed terms and finally agreed over the major obstacle – where Strong could live. Since he has been on Merseyside, Strong has established many firm ties, including business ones, and was not prepared to move to the Midlands.
Cantwell, however, agreed to allow the player to live in his present home at Aughton. He leaves Anfield just six games short of a total in all competitions of 200 games. He played 151 League games (30 goals), 23 FA Cup-ties (1 goal), 16 European matches (2 goals) and four League Cup-ties.
