Four from Liverpool in Don Revie’s first squad

The Revie Revolution takes further shape. Don Revie’s first England squad contains eight of the team which failed against Poland in the World Cup – plus the six most exciting of last season’s Under-23 team.
Kevin Beattie, with eight Under-23 caps, Willie Maddren (5), Gerry Francis (5), Trevor Francis (3), Alan Hudson (9) and Dave Thomas (11), all uncapped at senior level, are in the 24 for the critical opening European Championship tie against Czechoslovakia at Wembley next Wednesday.
