City publican retires

November 3, 1976
The landlord of the Lamb, at Wavertree, pulled his last pint after more than 40 years last night. Matt Fitzsimmons, aged 59, is retiring from the pub where his father was landlord before him. He won the Military Medal at Arnham and was a professional footballer with Liverpool before the war.

And after 25 years behind the bar with Mr. Fitzsimmons as her boss, Mrs. Sadie Grimes, of Waterloo Street, Wavertree, decided to call it a day too.
