Colin Irwin, a 20-year-old part-timer, is standing by to make his debut for Liverpool against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final replay at Maine Road tomorrow.
Irwin, a camera technician at a Kirkby factory, will get his chance if veteran defender Tommy Smith is ruled out with a bruised thigh.
His only first-team experience was in a pre-season friendly with Utrecht in Holland two years ago. (Daily Mirror, 26-04-1977)
