Liverpool tribute to John Moores

July 9, 1977
Liverpool chairman Mr. John Smith today paid tribute to the contribution Mr. John Moores has made to the football and general life of the city – Mr. Moores yesterday announced his retirement from the Everton Board after 17 years as a director.

Mr. Smith said: “We at Liverpool are very sorry to see him go. His contribution to both clubs, and particularly Everton of course, was considerable and his name will never be forgotten while football is talked about in this city.

“He was a frequent visitor to Anfield and was always most welcome.

“Although he has retired now, I’m sure he will still keep in touch with the game and with both clubs in the city. We, at Liverpool, will always be very pleased to see him as a great friend of us all.

“In addition to his football links, he is also one of the greatest benefactors this city has ever had.”
