The fences are up at Anfield in ample time for the start of the season on August 20. As this picture shows, the fences will be comprehensive and, officials believe, hooligan proof. They are just part of a big programme of work at the ground being carried out this summer to comply with new safety regulations. The cost of erecting the steel fence round three-quarters of the ground and safety work is £200,000.
In addition, new gates are being installed at the Kop end of the car park and a lounge within the main stand is being created for the use of shareholders.
New barriers have been erected on the Anfield Road terraces and the Kop where the crowd capacity has been reduced to below 20,000.
