England goalkeeper Ray Clemence may have played his last game or Liverpool. That is the shock news for Anfield fans following the club’s third European Cup triumph in Paris (writes Ray Bradley).
The 32-year-old Liverpool star is ready to leave Anfield knowing that the club have a ready-made replacement in 22-year-old Bruce Grobbelaar – signed from Vancouver Whitecaps for £250,000 a few months ago.
Clemence’s plans will be dictated by whether or not England qualify for the World Cup Finals in Spain next year. If they do, Clemence will stay in English football, but not with Liverpool and that could make Spurs (Tottenham Hotspur) favourites for his signature.
If England become World Cup flops again then Clemence could head for the U.S. after a remarkable 14 years with Liverpool for whom he has made more than 550 first-team appearances.
