Stoke and Spurs are poised to join the chase for Liverpool and England midfielder Ray Kennedy, who is now surplus to requirements at Anfield. Stoke boss Richie Barker has already been in touch with Liverpool after selling his England Under-21 star Adrian Heath to Everton for £700,000 in midweek.
Tottenham, battling for League, League Cup, FA Cup and European honours, also see the £170,000 rated Kennedy as a short-term bargain as they seek to strengthen their squad. Manager Keith Burkinshaw snapped up Liverpool goalkeeper Ray Clemence in the summer, and with the congested programme ahead, the versatile Kennedy is an obvious attraction.
Sunderland and Newcastle were also in the hunt for Kennedy, but have had drop out of the chase because of financial problems.
