Liverpool will today beat a cluster of First Division rivals for the signature of Oldham’s £200,000-rated teenaged starlet Wayne Harrison. The League champions last night agreed terms with Oldham and the player travels to Anfield today to become Britain’s costliest player at his age.
Just 17, he is several months younger than Steve Mackenzie was when he moved from Crystal Palace to Manchester City for £250,000 in 1979. Harrison has started just four senior games for Oldham. Liverpool win the race ahead of Manchester United, Everton, and Nottingham Forest for a youngster who has rifled 35 goals at youth, reserve and senior level, this season.
