The death of Dave Underwood

Dave Underwood, the former Watford, Fulham and Liverpool goalkeeper has died after a long illness. He was 60. After playing over 250 league games – including 50 appearances in the Anfield first team between 1953 and 1956 – Underwood became chairman of non-league Barnet.

During his time at Anfield, Underwood shared the goalkeeping duties with Charles Ashcroft and Doug Rudham. Don Welsh signed six foot one inch Underwood from Watford and when he left Anfield, it was to return to the southern club. He later joined Dartford, return to Watford and ended his league days with Fulham, as understudy to Tony Macedo.
