Ron Atkinson reckons “petticoat power” could ruin his bid to sign Liverpool’s Republic of Ireland international Ray Houghton.
Aston Villa’s boss is due to meet Houghton this morning.
Vill and Chelsea have agreed a £900,000 fee but Atkinson said: “Houghton’s wife is a London girl and is keen that they move back there.”
The sale of Houghton will enable Liverpool to move for Tottenham’s Paul Stewart, who has joined Trevor Steven on Anfield’s transfer hit-list.
