The death of Sydney Moss

Sydney Moss, the vice-chairman of Liverpool Football Club, has died. Mr. Moss, former chairman of Merseyside Police Committee, and chairman of the Police and Fire Committee, died peacefully at his home in Gateacre.

His wife, Betty, said today: “He was a wonderful man who was loved by so many people.”

Mr. Moss, a JP, was a director of Liverpool F.C. and was elected vice-chairman of the club in 1991. He held a long list of distinguished posts and was made a freeman of London in 1983.

He joined the Conservative Party in Fairfield ward in 1935 and entered Liverpool City Council for St. Michael’s ward in 1960.

Mr. Moss was elected to Merseyside County Council in 1973.

He was elected chairman of the Police Committee and chairman of the Police and Fire Committee of the Association of Metropolitan Authorities in 1977.

The funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Woolton, at 2.15 pm on Friday and 3pm at Springwood crematorium.
