Oggy: Gloves staying off

Friday, October 20 – 2000
Steve Ogrizovic has ruled out the possibility of making a comeback at the age of 43 to ease Coventry’s goalkeeping crisis. The Sky Blues are currently without the services of first-choice keeper Magnus Hedman and deputy Morten Hyldgaard through injury.

That means they only have youth-team keeper Gary Montgomery as cover for 19-year-old Chris Kirkland, who made his full Premiership debut in Saturday’s win over Tottenham. But Ogrizovic, now on the coaching staff at Highfield Road, has ruled out adding to his 600-plus appearances for the club, the last of which came last season.

He said: “I am retired. I have no intention of playing again. What is more, I haven’t trained for six months.”
Coventry have been given special dispensation to approach other Premiership clubs to fill the gap left by Hedman.
