Liverpool v Hamburg 6-0 (European Super Cup: December 6, 1977)

December 6, 1977
Key note: “The Kirkby Kids had an Anfield triumph last night as they sparked Liverpool to a six-of-the-best massacre of S.V. Hamburg. Close friends Terry McDermott and Phil Thompson, both Kirkby-born, led the way as the European Cup holders turned on a night of magic to win the European Super Cup with their most impressive display of the season, in which they recaptured their flowing best. McDermott, with his first hat-trick for the club, had the game of his life and revelled his spot as the centre man of the midfield trio. It was his super trio of goals, added to Thompson’s opener, which reduced Hamburg to a disorganised shambles.” (Liverpool Echo: December 7, 1977)
