Reds in charity match at St Helens

May 9, 1925
The Burnley half-back, Alf Basnett, assisted a team of past St. Helen’s players against present players in a charity match in his native town on Saturday. The game was in aid of a St. Helens’s man, S. Murray, formerly of the Everton and Reading clubs, who lost a leg in a pit accident.

Amongst the past players were Tommy Lucas (Liverpool), John Bamber (Leicester City), Billy Caulfield (Crewe, and formerly of Nelson), and two former Burnley players, Harry Gee and Tom Brophy, now of New Brighton.
