Season preview 1927/28 – Bury F.C. (The Athletic News)

Monday, August 22 – 1927
Bury have benefited by the lessons of last season, when the misfortunes they experienced found them inadequately served in the matter of reserves for the defensive divisions.

The management consider they have provided for emergencies for both the back and half-back lines by signing two players of repute for each division, and as Heap has now fully recovered, and W. Richardson and Harrison are still available in goal, the defence would seem in capable hands. The rear division has also been strengthened by the acquisition of Lawrence Brown, from Newcastle United, who can play in either position as full-back, and George Bradshaw, a Blackpool right-back of whom much is expected.

The middle-line will again be composed of Porter, Bradshaw, and Dutton, and new-coming reliefs are F. Maclachlan, a clever right-half from Grimsby Town, and a general utility man in Luke Curry, who had experience with Blyth Spartans before transferring to Jarrow.

Other additions are M. Davin, inside-right, from Dumbarton; R. Drummond, left half-back from Dunoon; and H.G. Cooper, outside left from Old Chorltonians. Another inside forward is expected to sign during the week.

Of the dozen players who were not retained Bill Turner has gone to Queens Park Rangers; Frank Ward to Preston North End; Jack Davies and Tommy Seymour to Swansea Town; Robert Ogden and Harry Fare to Flint; and Harry Broome to Colwyn Bay.

Bury have a big list of season ticket-holders, and present prospects point to the general average of the last three seasons, between £4,000 and £5,000, being maintained.
