Liverpool yesterday made two football deals. They signed one inside forward and transferred another. Jack Lawton, 19, has joined the club and Sam Shields, 23, was signed by Airdrieonians, the Scottish club. Shields joined Liverpool from Cowdenbeath in April 1949. Lawton played for Earlestown in the Lancashire Combination last season. (Daily Mirror: July 28, 1951)
