The star of the future, twenty-three-year-old centre-half or full back Geoff Twentyman, was signed from Carlisle United by Liverpool, who on Wednesday paid Watford £7,000 for goalkeeper David Underwood.
The cost of Liverpool’s latest bid to strengthen their defence was not disclosed, but the fee is believed to be a five-figure one.
This is backed up by the Carlisle’s statement that they let Twentyman go only because they needed money after the destruction of their stand by fire earlier this year.
Manager Fred Emery said: “The destruction of the stand was a big loss. We have to build up our finances, so we had to let Geoff go.”
