Young Tony Rowley await his debut

April 6, 1954
If Liverpool can field their strongest side for the remaining League matches they still have a faint chance to avoid relegation.

Despite that Mr. Don Welsh, their manager, is prepared to give Tony Rowley, 20, his League debut in the vital match against Manchester City at Maine Road tomorrow.
If John Evans, inside left, who injured an ankle on Saturday, fails a fitness test, Rowley may get his big chance.

Rowley was signed this season and is a reserve team regular.

Mr. Welsh is hoping that Barry Wilkinson, amateur right half, will be in the side. Barry is in the Royal Air Force, at Swinton, and Liverpool won’t know until today whether he will be free to play.
