Key note: “Fast and furious – that was how Cup holders Liverpool battled with Stoke City in the third round of the F.A. Cup at Anfield this afternoon. Liverpool were much the more positive team, particularly in the second half. There was a happy touch much appreciated by the crowd as both teams lined up on the pitch as they came out of the tunnel, to give a special greeting to Ian Callaghan, who of course received the M.B.E., in the New Year’s Honours lists. The two best goalkeeper in England, Clemence and Shilton, also received a great ovation as they took up position before the start, with Shilton in the Kop goal.” (Liverpool Echo: January 4, 1975)
